What is Laser Vision Correction?

Laser vision correction is a type of eye surgery that involves a specialized laser reshaping the cornea to correct refractive errors. The most advanced laser vision correction procedures are LASIK, SMILE, and PRK. What Type of Vision

Correction is Right for You?

Depending on your individual eyes, Dr. Jennifer Wu may recommend one laser vision correction procedure to you over another. Only a consultation and examination can determine which procedure is best for you.

Individuals over the age of 50, or those who wear readers or bifocals, are often better candidates for an Intraocular Lens (IOL) implant with Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE).

LASIK

Approved by the FDA in 1998, LASIK continues to be the procedure of choice for people with hyperopia or large amounts of myopia or astigmatism.

SMILE

SMILE is a gentle procedure that results in rapid vision improvement. It delivers the same great visual results as LASIK, without creating a flap.

PRK

Before the advent of LASIK, PRK was the refractive surgery procedure of choice. Today, PRK remains safer and more effective for individuals facing certain corneal health issues.

ICL

EVO ICL, which stands for Implantable Collamer® Lenses, is an implantable lens that is completely reversible, unlike the other laser vision correction procedures. It is a great alternative to LASIK because you are likely still a candidate even if you have a high prescription, thin corneas, astigmatism, or chronic dry eye.

RLE

For people whom reading glasses are a necessary and inconvenient part of everyday life, lens replacement surgery, also known as refractive lens exchange (RLE), replaces the eyes’ natural lenses with an artificial implant to restore youthful vision at a distance and near. This procedure can correct a wide range of refractive errors for those who aren’t eligible for LASIK and are 50 years and older.
